The Sovereign Military Order of Malta will shortly open a Chancery in Mauritius which will be based in Rose Hill to strengthen further bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.
This was at the fore of discussions between the Viscount Guy Panon Desbassayns de Richemont, during a courtesy call this afternoon on the Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, at the Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement, Viscount Guy Panon Desbassayns de Richemont, highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries whereby he reiterated the continuous support of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta through the signing of a cooperation agreement with Mauritius in 2013 which provides for facilitating the humanitarian work effected in Mauritius especially with regards to natural calamities as well as for the provision of general assistance to improve public health service among the priority areas.
It will be recalled that diplomatic relations between the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and Mauritius was established in 1977. Since then it has provided several assistance to Mauritius through the donation of medicines and two ambulances; contribution to the Prime Minister’s Cyclone Relief Fund; assistance to the Oncology department and the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life and has also trained some 60 first aid personnel (secouristes).
The Sovereign Military Order of Malta has diplomatic relations with 105 countries and has a long tradition of providing hospital and health services and carries out missions of charity, helping the poor or destitute to have access to medical treatment.
