Invoking Parliamentary Debates (Hansard) to Interpret Legislation in Mauritius: The Prevention of Corruption Act

In some African countries such as Uganda, Zambia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Kenya, and Mauritius, courts have invoked parliamentary debates to interpret legislation. The purposes of this article are to demonstrate the different stages through which the issue of relying on parliamentary debates to interpret legislation in Mauritius has passed and illustrate how courts have invoked those debates to interpret section 3 of the Prevention of Corruption Act
