Milan Meetarbhan takes up new appointment as Mauritius Ambassador to the United Nations, New York

After five years as Chief Executive of the Financial Services Commission, Dr. Milan J.N. Meetarbhan, has left the Commission to take up his new appointment as Mauritius Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

“The FSC headed by its able and most devoted Chief Executive, has managed to further consolidate the position of the FSC as a sound, secure and highly regarded and regulated international financial services centre. We thank Milan for his contributions to the Commission, his strong work ethics, and his dedication to the FSC and we look forward to his continued contribution to the country at the United Nations” said Mr. Said Lalloo, Chairman of the Board of the FSC.

In his farewell message, Milan Meetarbhan said: “Mauritius has positioned and promoted itself as an IFC over the past years. We must now consider more forcefully a regional strategy and expansion strategy that will enable both global and domestic service providers to provide financial services from Mauritius.”

A former academic and law practitioner, Dr. Meetarbhan had also held senior positions in Government prior to his appointment to the FSC. He was also Vice-Chairman of the SADC Committee of Insurance, Securities and Non-Banking Financial Authorities. During his mandate, Dr. Meetarbhan stressed on the need for a business-friendly approach to regulation and on enhancing the developmental role of the FSC.

The FSC Board has asked Mr. Prakash Seewoosunkur to act as Officer in Charge of the Commission pending the appointment of a new Chief Executive.
