A team of experts and consultants from Singapore is currently in Mauritius following a request by the Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, to make an independent assessment and recommendations following the deadly flash flood that occurred in Port Louis on Saturday 30 March 2013.
The delegation, led by Mr. Evan Cheah, Deputy Director of the Singapore Corporation Enterprise (SCE), had a meeting yesterday afternoon with the Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam. The other members of the delegation comprise of Mr. Lim Meng Check, Deputy Director of the Public Utilities Board of Singapore, Mr. Vinod Singh, Dr. Joost Burman, Dr. Petra Schimitter and Mrs. Venetia Bellers.
The Government is giving all necessary support to the families affected by the natural disaster on 30 March, attributed mainly to climate change. Sea temperatures in the Indian Ocean have risen, as per the latest analysis by United Nations experts. Last week, Prime Minister said that Mauritius needs to make a thorough review to enhance its levels of preparedness and rescue operations.
